Workplace 2027: We’re Starting to See Hints of What It Will Look Like

Woman looking at see through computer screens

Now that My Space Downtown is three years old, we’re aware of how much has changed in the world of work these past three years – in particular in the world of remote work. Knowing that time passes so quickly, we’re curious to imagine the workplace and remote work just three years from now, by 2027.

Here are some trends already being talked about:

  • Remote work will still be popular. In fact, remote work will be even more popular, as the economy becomes more digital. With robots doing manual on-site work, roving teams from multiple locations will band together remotely to form high-functioning pods aided by Artificial Intelligence and digital assistants who do research and report writing automatically.

  • Robots will become mainstream. Advances in smart machines, technology and internet-based applications will create robots who do repetitive drudge work that frees high-performing workers to focus on strategy and innovation. Most manufacturing will be automated, with assembly lines being people-free.

  • All work will be global. AI, digital and computer advances will condense geography, with easier pathways to work in China, Africa, the Middle East and Europe from places like My Space Downtown in Panama City. Multi-national companies will expand worker footprints in scales never imagined.

  • Work roles and structure will change. Middle management will be replaced by algorithms that supervise and hold workers accountable through tracking applications. Right now, you can create an AI buddy. Within three years, companies will hand you an AI supervisor.

If you’re not startled by these massive changes in work life predicted to happen within only three years, consider these other near-term trends soon to affect our lives: Fast food will become more customized, cooked by robots. Want a cheeseburger made from tofu and non-dairy cheese? No problem. We’ll have it delivered to your remote worksite at My Space Downtown by an R2D2-type robot. Meanwhile, while you are working remotely, at home your robotic vacuum cleaner will have companions (robotic window washers, intelligent trash bins that automatically sort compost, and smart mops that clean tile and play with your pets), all directed by AI to make your home spot-free when you pull up after work in your DeLorean Air Car.

These innovations sound impossible to become reality in just three years, but many are, indeed, coming. Looking back just five short years, we’ve undergone changes of similar magnitude. Five years ago, we didn’t have cell therapies that cure some cancers, internet on airplanes, generative AI, blockchain technology and cyber money, drones for popular use, avatars and consumer space flights.

My Space Downtown promises to be your partner as the world of work rapidly changes in the months ahead. We embrace what’s coming and look forward to helping you be the best possible digitally enhanced YOU that you can be!
